Green Bean Casserole Bundles are a twist on the classic Green Bean Casserole! Easy to prepare, delicious, and full of old school flavor!
Deciding on a favorite Thanksgiving side dish is not easy.
Do you go for the mashed potatoes first? Or sweet potatoes? Or stuffing? It all tastes delicious, especially mixed together. Don’t judge. You know you mix your stuffing and mashed potatoes together. I see you!
I will say that my favorite side dish is probably green bean casserole. This dish has been around since the 1950’s and is still making a strong appearance at the Thanksgiving table.
Now, given that it’s served casserole style (meaning one dish), I wanted to give this old school dish a makeover. Enter, Green Bean Casserole Bundles!
All the usual suspects are in these bundles. You’ll find:
1) You’ll want to par-bake your bacon strips. I found that cooking the bacon for about 7 to 8 minutes and then assembling the bundles makes the bacon easier to work with. Plus, it helps the bacon get crisper towards the end of the cooking process.
2) You can certainly make your own cream of mushroom soup. However, if you don’t have time I highly recommend using Pacific brand cream of mushroom. It’s a little more expensive, but it doesn’t have the gunk like in the regular stuff.
3) For the green beans, I used a ready-to-go bag. Meaning the green beans were washed, blanched, and trimmed. Makes the whole process easier. If you need to use regular green beans just make sure you cook the beans and then put the beans in an ice to keep from over cooking later.
4) These bundles are a lighter version of the classic casserole. If you want more of the sauce I would recommend reserving some of the sauce and braising the bundles to get more of the green bean casserole taste.
Yes! You can assemble the night before and then bake them off the next day! I would only go up to the point of par-baking the bacon and then the assembly of the bundles.
You can! I would highly recommend following this recipe to make a casserole version. Spoiler alert: you can make it in the slow cooker too!
I hope you all enjoy this recipe. If you want more side dishes to enjoy for Thanksgiving make sure to check these out:
