Great Gatsby Cocktail: Easy Ginger Ale Punch

This Great Gatsby cocktail is not your ordinary punch, folks. If you like the spicy, warm flavor of ginger, this roaring 20s cocktail is right up your alley.

Ingredients

For the simple syrup:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated

For the Great Gatsby Cocktail:

  • 4 fresh mint sprigs
  • 1/2 ounce orange juice
  • 3 dashes of blood orange bitters
  • 1 ounce ginger simple syrup
  • 2 ounces cognac
  • Ice
  • Ginger ale
  • Frozen cherries, thawed

Instructions 

To make the ginger simple syrup:

  • Combine the water, sugar, and fresh ginger in a medium saucepan.
  • Bring to a low boil over medium heat, then immediately reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  • Strain out the ginger and let cool. Store your syrup in the refrigerator in an air-tight container for up to 2-3 weeks.

To make the Great Gatsby Cocktail:

  • Add the mint sprigs, orange juice, and ginger simple syrup to a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle the mint to release its oils and flavor. Add the orange bitters, cognac, and ice and stir.
  • Add a few cherries to the bottom of a champagne glass. Strain the cocktail into the champagne glass, then top with ginger ale.
