foodie fridays: blood orange mint julep
“Welcome to Foodie Fridays, where we explore exquisite flavors. Join us in savoring a classic with a twist: Blood Orange Mint Julep. A refreshing and vibrant libation for your Friday indulgence.”
A couple of weeks ago, I visited the skin doctor.
I go once a year for general check up because I am super, errrrr, more on the scale of MEGA paranoid about skin cancer. I think people often overlook this checkup and hello, skin is the largest organ on our bodies. If you check your whoo-ha, then you need to check your back, face, etc. It makes sense!
Anyways, nothing serious, I just have one of those wonderful quirks where my oil glands like to get together, party hard for a night, and leave a weird, cartilage looking present on my body. So rude. I had it removed because it was embarrassing and totally got in the way of a smooth leg shave.
The doc gave me three stitches, which was nothing and didn’t even hurt. Hooray! But after she removed the cartridge beast and stitched me up, she said to make an appointment to come back in 10 to 14 days to have the stitches removed or I could remove them myself. DO WHAT?
So, I replied, “Doc, are you telling me that I can remove my own stitches?” “Oh, yes, people do it all the time. It’s really not that big of a deal”, she said.
“Not a big deal? Let me get this straight. So back in my childhood years where my parents taught me the importance of changing a tire, saving money, and brushing my teeth, you don’t think they should have mentioned how to remove stitches? I feel as though that should be a top five make sure you know how to do!”
Anyways, I will keep you posted on whether I attempt the removal of my own stitches. In the meantime, let’s cheer to the weekend with these blood orange and bourbon mint juleps. Because sipping bourbon and citrus together is like learning new tricks or pulling stitches. They just have to happen sometime.
Cheers!
“Conclude your week with Foodie Fridays and elevate your spirits with our Blood Orange Mint Julep. A delightful blend of classic charm and citrusy freshness, perfect for ending your week on a high note.”
Love these spring time flavors, Lauren!
Thanks, Tieghan!
Pulling out your own stitches?! I’m not sure I could face that. I’d definitely need one of these cocktails (or two…) to even consider it…
LOL!! So true. Have a great weekend, lady!
any drink with blood orange and mint sounds fab in my book! maybe you should drink like 3-4 of these and then attempt to remove the stitches yourself…or maybe not yourself but like have your husband do it while you’re intoxicated so you might not feel a thing, haha! 😉 i’m such a good influence..
LOL!!!! I like the way you think! Thanks, Julie!
I’m on my way for cocktail hour!!!
SA-WEET!!! See you in 5!
yummmm you are such a tease to a pregnant lady 😉
LOL! You definitely need to try this cocktail once your bundle of joy arrives!
I’d TOTALLY drink one or two of these then remove my own stitches. I have a friend who is a PA and he came over and removed stitches from one of my kids while they both sat on the porch and ate ice cream a couple years ago. If it’s snipping and pulling myself vs. making an appointment and taking the time to go to the doc, I’d snip and tug any time!
PHEW. It’s very comforting to know that it’s a “normal” thing to pull out your own stitches! But, yes, definitely going to need a few cocktails before!
This post is cracked me up. I’m glad you’re ok…I don’t know if I’d be brave enough to attempt stick removal on my own (seriously?!). This drink looks all sorts of awesome!
Thanks, Lauren! I will keep y’all posted. I have a feeling the hubby is going to be removing them!
Eeeeek! The thought of removing my own stitches is making me feel light headed! Hand me a pitcher of this blood orange mint julep stat! 😉 Lauren, these are beautiful photos and I’m seriously craving this drink right now (10 am on a Friday morning is a perfectly appropriate time to start weekend boozing). If you do attempt to remove them, just make sure to have this drink on hand. And let us know how it goes! My mom used to remove her own teeth when she was growing up in China so I’m sure my mom could remove stitches. Me, not so much! I’m Wussy McFainterson over here.
So gorgeous, what a perfect cocktail for the weekend!
I adore a good mint julep, and this one looks so fantastic! Perfect for stitch removal! Must get my hands on some blood orange bitters!
I am always paranoid about every mole on my body!! Yikes! I want this cocktail. Now.
Actually, every time I’ve had skin anything done, they gave me self-dissolving stitches! I don’t remember what they were made of–some collagen something?–but it definitely avoided the issue of removal. ANYWAY, after that, I think a drink is in order. 🙂 This julep sounds fantastic!
I’m not sure you could pay me to take out my own stitches, but maybe it’s not as gross in real life as it is in my head. Anywaaaaaay, I could drink a whole pitcher of this mint julep. Hello spring, and hello to sips outdoors in the sunshine!
Love me a good bourbon drink and you really captured it with the addition of bloor orange! LOVE. Cannot agree more … get checked ladies! I am a freak about that stuff, and have all lumps and bumps checked out. Especially since my sister was just diagnosed with Melanoma.
Keep us posted on the removal of those stitches – you are braver than I!
OMG, after that experience I would totally need a cocktail…or three! Glad you’re doing ok.
This looks like a gorgeous cocktail, just in time for the weekend.
I could sip on this all day but that would be bad so all night then ; )
I’m just going to start a DO IT DO IT DO IT chant. But no, really, don’t do it if you don’t feel comfortable doing it.
Or have one of these julep deliciousnesses and then do it. That really seems like the way to go.
It’s like you just get me – Pendleton and citrus. What a gem and a half. And uhh, taking out my own stitches? LOL, nope. But glad you got the A-Okay from the doc!
A whole lot of pure goodness in on glass! A must try for sure! Pinning!
What a gorgeous cocktail!
I can’t look at stitches, they gross me out. But this drink…I’d love to look at this in front of me!
This looks great! How much simple syrup and bitters do you suggest for each drink? Thanks!
Megan – Hi! I would do an ounce of the simple syrup (so like a shot) and about a teaspoon or a little less of bitters:)
