Variations

Dulce de Leche Pumpkin Brownies are a versatile, fall-inspired dessert that can be customized to suit various tastes, dietary preferences, or occasions while preserving their fudgy chocolate base, spiced pumpkin swirl, and caramel-like dulce de leche.

Salted Caramel Pumpkin Brownies: Increase dulce de leche and sprinkle flaky sea salt generously over the top before baking. Use dark cocoa powder for a richer brownie base. Swirl extra dulce de leche into the pumpkin layer for intensified caramel notes.

Pumpkin Spice and Pecan Brownies: Fold chopped, toasted pecans into the brownie batter or sprinkle on top before baking. Increase pumpkin pie spice in the pumpkin swirl and add a pinch to the brownie base. Use dulce de leche sparingly for subtle sweetness.

Mocha Pumpkin Brownies: Add 1-2 teaspoons of instant espresso powder or strong brewed coffee to the brownie batter. Use dark chocolate cocoa powder for deeper flavor. Keep the pumpkin swirl and dulce de leche for balance, adding a touch of cinnamon to the coffee layer.

Proper Storing

Short-Term Storage: Allow the brownies to cool completely to room temperature. Store in an airtight container or wrap the baking pan tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Layer with parchment paper between stacked brownies to prevent sticking due to the sticky dulce de leche. Store at room temperature for up to 1 day for the fudgiest texture, ideal if serving soon. Refrigerate for up to 3 days.

Long-Term Storage: Cool brownies completely and wrap individual brownies or the whole slab tightly in plastic wrap, followed by aluminum foil, or place in a freezer-safe airtight container or heavy-duty zip-top freezer bag. Freeze for up to 1 month for optimal quality.
