I completely forgot that yesterday was April Fools’!

Doh.
I loved April Fools’ Day as a kid. Dad, if you’re reading this, do you remember when I tried to put salt in the sugar dispenser? I thought I was so clever, but you always knew to check! That’s why you’re a doctor, huh?
Instead of playing tricks on people this year, apparently I was the one being tricked. I was tricked into thinking that summer had arrived early with 85 degree temperatures this past weekend. Sadly, Mother Nature had me fooled BIG time. Have you seen the forecast for this week? Rain? SNOOOOOW? So not cool.

As I mentioned yesterday, we spent a ton of time on our balcony this past weekend. We chatted with the neighbors, sipped some red wine, and grilled up a feast. What I didn’t tell you was that our first grilled meal of 2012 ended with a huge dusting of baking soda. Ooops!

We wanted to grill something other than steaks so Mr. B decided short ribs would be a fun alternative. The short ribs, in my opinion, turned out finger lickin’ good because we bathed them in Stubb’s barbecue sauce. Mr. B on the other hand will completely disagree with me. He thought they turned out crispy and hard. Whatevs.
Back to the grill.

After we scarfed down the pile of short ribs, Mr. B went back to the grill to turn on the self cleaning. No bigs. Five minutes later smoke started to appear in our kitchen.Hmmm….strange? We both looked at each other and couldn’t figure out what was going on. I immediately got up from the couch and went straight to the stove because I had roasted some cauliflower early and thought the oven didn’t turn completely off. Well, with one quick glance out the balcony door all I could see where giant flames bursting from the grill! I’m talking Backdraft style flames, people.

I yelled to Mr. B, “FIRE!” I went straight for the bucket of water, but Mr. B ever so calmly reached into the pantry for baking soda. My first thought, “Why aren’t you freaking out? Our place is going up in flames and your rummaging through the pantry. Great. We’re going to die!” While I was in my inner monologue freak out, Mr. B strolled over to the grill with the baking soda in hand, poured it on the flames, and put the fire out in 2.2 nano seconds. Crisis adverted. I knew I should have paid attention in Girl Scouts. Rats.

After a long weekend of cooking, it was nice to have someone else cook for us this evening. Matt and Elizabeth invited us over to their to house for dinner and to watch the Kansas Jayhawks take on the Kentucky Wildcats in the national championship.

We sipped on some cocktails and mingled. Their house is completely adorable and super chic. I would kill for their space!

Elizabeth is also a foodie and loves to cook so I was not surprised to see a delicious spread. She whipped up a fresh mango salsa (which had me dreaming of summer), coleslaw, and a perfectly cooked pork tenderloin.

Kentucky ended up beating Kansas. The unibrow was definitely key to Kentucky’s victory.

Anyways, tomorrow we are supposed to get anywhere from 6 to 12 inches of snow! WTF.

Good night friends.
