shoo cold, don’t bother me
This morning I woke up with a cold.
Rats.
In a way I’m not surprised that I received the gift that keeps on giving. On Sunday, Mr. B in a nasally voice asked me, “How come you never get sick?” My response, “Because I’m awesome.” Probably not the correct response given that he had a giant head cold and karma was listening.
Darn my lack of an inner monologue.
Wait.
Karma can hear everything, right?
Fantastic.
Anyways, as I quickly realized that I needed to feel better ASAP, I reached for the only thing that could save me from this dreaded cold, Zicam.
Zicam is like Robitussin. Oh yes, Robitussin. I think Chris Rock explains it the best in his comedic stand up in Bigger and Blacker:
“When I was a kid, I had to be near-death to see a doctor, so my daddy got into the habit of putting Robitussin on everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. “Daddy, I got asthma! “Well here, take some Robitussin!” Daddy, I got cancer! “Here, take some Robitussin!” Daddy, I broke my leg! “Here, put some Robitussin on it… that’s right, let the Robitussin sink in there.”
I swear if Mr. B and I have children, I am going to keep Zicam in bulk because the spray will cure anything – pink eye, lockjaw, and even diaper rash.
Work today was a struggle. Well, I should concentration was a struggle. My head was throbbing. I coughed and sneezed every forty-two seconds. I was a mess I tell ya. Good thing SBUX’s is down the street from our office because I decided a hot green tea would be the perfect thing to get me through the rest of the day.
I debated on whether or not to run after work. I knew that I wanted to enjoy the amazing warm weather (hello, sixty degrees and sunny!) so I made a deal with myself. I told myself that I could play outside only if I walked in the park. Hmmm….that’s a statement I thought I would never say. I am glad I decided to walk because trying to run, and breathe through all of that congestion would have been difficult.
Dinner tonight was inspired by one of my favorite new food blogs, Bev Cooks. Love her. Not only is she witty, her recipes are super simple and delicious. Anyways, I made her Angel Hair Pasta with Chicken Sausage, Kale and Tomatoes a few months ago, and thought it would be a nice light dish before the big game.
This dish is chalk full of vegetables – kale, asparagus, tomatoes, shallots. But the best part, it takes about 15 minutes to make! If you haven’t checked out her website you totes should.
And now it’s game time!
My beloved kitties are taking on the KU dirty birds tonight in basketball. All I have to say is….EMAW!
Aww, hope you feel better!! I bet the game didn't help, darn it!
A cold! NOOOO!
Your description made me think of Barney Stinson on HIMYM when he gets sicks, who keeps sniffing/blows his nose and says his nose was overflowing with awesome and he had to get some of it out…
Rock on in your awesomeness. 🙂 ~Megan
A co-worker came and coughed all over my cube today and I had to get up and fan the space out afterward. They were scary coughs. I hope that you're feeling up to par soon!
I'm glad you got outside to enjoy the weather. I'm loving it up here.
p.s. I was in Theta!
Sorry you got a cold. And your Cats played awful against the “Awesome Birds.” Hope you feel better soon.
