This weekend felt like summer.
If you’d blind folded me and asked to me to guess, based on the current temperature outside, if today was the first of April or the first of June. You bet my sweet tookus I would have gone with June.
Even though the trees and flowers are just beginning to bloom, the smell in the air is that of freshly cut grass, sweet tea, and burgers on the grill. I do enjoy spring, don’t get me wrong, but I will gladly hopscotch right into summer. You just can’t beat summer nights of sitting on a patio listening to the cicadas while sipping a cold beer. Plus, is there anything better than the 4th of July? I think not.
Since Mr. B and I were wishfully thinking that it was summer already, we naturally assumed our warm weather positions.
We strolled through Wash Park and witnessed spring fever at its max.
We hiked on dusty trails.
We enjoyed eating late brunches at local favorite diners.
But the one position that screams summer in the ol’ Grier household, sitting on our balcony. We made our balcony more comfortable last year by finally buying a small table with chairs, and a grill! It only took us four years to get the motivation to complete, but as they say, better late then never.
My top three favorite things to do while we sit on our balcony:
One, listen to Mr. B strum on his guitar.
Two, enjoy our own version of happy hour with wine and appetizers.
And lastly, grilling. I love to cook, but hate doing dishes. Once the weather turns a more appropriate temperature, my need to place any food group on top of a hot grill becomes excessive. Do you think I could make cupcakes on a grill? Too excessive?
Anyways, after last nights short rib/fire fail (note to self: always keep baking soda on hand), we decided to keep things simple and grill up some steak kabobs.
Mr. B used to make kabobs all the time back in college. The key ingredient to making your home kabobs tasting a 11/10, Italian dressing. Put the stink-eye away and just go with me. The dressing is the perfect marinade and if you want to know the truth, it’s easy peasy.
Just pour.
Wait.
Eat.
And if you want (read: highly encouraged), while the kabobs cook, pour yourself a glass of wine, put your feet up, and relax.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some summer food to eat.
