I am a major wuss. I was supposed to do 9 miles on a trail today, but instead headed to Wash Park. Since my running buddy is out of town, I didn’t think it would be a good idea for me to run on a trail by myself. I mean, what if I fall and no one is around to help me? What if a mountain lion eats me? All logical thoughts, right? Even though there is a slim chance to none that a mountain lion would actually eat me, it was enough of a thought to convince me to head to the park.

I got to Wash Park around 7:30am, and it was beautiful. It was a perfect 68 degrees outside. I thought to myself for a moment when I arrived and saw tons of people at the park….ohhhh…. this is why people get up in the morning to run during the summer. I get it now!

The first 5 miles were fantastic. Good pace, hydrating correctly, actually got half a cliff bar down, things were going good. Until mile 7. My hip started to get soar and my knees weren’t doing so great. I thought to myself maybe you just need the other half of the cliff bar, you are probably low on sugar. So, I ate it. I felt good for the next mile, until BAM! I felt like I was going to have to go to the bathroom and puke all at the same time!! You have got to be kidding me!! I was a little over 8 miles and thought to myself, I still have a half mile to go, but I am going to die if I keep running. So, I stopped.

This is not the first time this has happened to me. For some reason, I can’t eat food past 7 miles. My body, just freaks out. I honestly don’t know how I ran my first half marathon without eating anything. I think I am going to have to load up on food before the race and rely on jelly beans to get me through until the end because home girl here does not want that feeling again.

Does anyone else have this problem? Am I being a drama queen?
