Ingredients Used to Make Greek Salmon Bites
During the busy work week I want to make dinner that is quick, easy, and flavorful. One of my go-to proteins is salmon because it’s very versatile and cooks quickly. For this recipe you will only need a handful of ingredients. Please feel free to play around with the seasonings!
- Fresh salmon filets – you can use frozen salmon, but make sure it’s thawed and patted dry
- Panko breadcrumbs – used coating for the salmon bites (if you can’t find panko breadcrumbs, try using plain breadcrumbs)
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Dried oregano – basic herb used in Mediterranean cooking
- Dried basil – adds a little freshness to the coating
- Kosher salt and pepper to taste
- Egg – used for the coating of the salmon
- All-purpose flour – used for coating of the salmon
How to Cook Greek Salmon Bites
These simple steps will help you achieve the best results and ensure a delicious, and perfectly cooked salmon bite:
- Remove the skin and cut the salmon into 1-inch bite-sized pieces.
- Place three pie dishes on your kitchen counter to make a dredging station. Fill one pie dish with the panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, kosher salt and pepper. Stir to combine. Next, fill the second pie dish with two eggs and whisk. Finally, add the all-purpose flour to the final pie dish.
- Take a piece of salmon and dip it into the flour followed by the egg and then the panko. Shake off any excess and set aside on a plate. Repeat process until all the salmon bites have been assemble
- Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. Place the salmon bites into the basket (you might have to do batches) and set the temperature to 390 degrees. Spray the tops of the salmon bites with non-stick cooking spray and cook for about 8 minutes. Flip halfway and check the temperature at about the 6 minute mark to make sure that they aren’t over cooked. Salmon should be done at 165 degrees.
- Once cooked and golden brown, remove and add them to a serving tray. Serve with hummus, tzatziki or garlic sauce!
Easy Variations for Air Fryer Greek Salmon Bites
- Spicy Kick Variation: If you enjoy a bit of heat, add some spice to your salmon bites. Mix in a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of cayenne pepper to the Greek yogurt marinade for a spicy kick.
- Lemon-Garlic Butter Variation: For an indulgent twist, melt some butter and mix it with minced garlic and fresh lemon juice. Brush this lemon-garlic butter onto the salmon bites during the air frying process to infuse them with rich flavors.
- Feta Cheese Topping Variation: After air frying the salmon bites, crumble some feta cheese on top while they are still warm. The tangy and salty feta pairs beautifully with the Greek flavors and adds a delightful creamy element.
- Greek Salad Skewers Variation: Instead of coating the salmon bites with breadcrumbs, marinate them in the Greek yogurt mixture, then thread them onto skewers alternating with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives. Air fry the skewers until the salmon is cooked through and serve them as a colorful and refreshing Greek salad on a stick.
- Lemon-Pepper Variation: Keep it simple and classic by seasoning the salmon bites with just a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a generous sprinkle of black pepper. This variation highlights the natural flavors of the salmon while adding a tangy brightness.
Proper Storing
- Allow the salmon bites to cool. After air frying, let the salmon bites cool down to room temperature before storing them.
- Refrigerate in an airtight container
- Store in the refrigerator
- Consume within 2-3 days: While refrigerated, it is recommended to consume the stored salmon bites within 2-3 days.
- Reheat before serving. When you’re ready to enjoy the salmon bites, reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes until they are heated through and regain their crispness
