foodie fridays: vodka gimlet
Let’s talk time machine.
Like Back to The Future style. If you could hop into a DeLorean Flux Capacitator and go back into time, where would you go?
Would you go all the wayyyyy back to the powdered wig Besty Ross era? Or would you want to chase down bad guys on a horse in the Wild West? Or get boozy and wear a flapper dress in the roaring 20’s?
Me? I would choose the 60’s. Sure, there are pros and cons to every era, but for some reason, I think I would love the 60’s! First, can we please discuss the fabulous clothing? Everyone looked fierce and sharp back then. Not a single hair out of place. I wish people still dressed like that because I am a sucker for a man dressed in a charcoal gray suit with a crisp white oxford shirt and a million dollar smile. Swoon.
Not only did the 60’s have chic couture, but the cars were beyond sexy. Enter the 1960 turquoise corvette. Talk about sexy-mcsexy! I would drive this car properly if I could. Top down, radio up, wind in your hair….now that would be the life.
Of course with the 60’s you can’t forget about the booze. Have you seen Mad Men? I get tipsy just watching the show. I didn’t know this until Mr. B and I had cocktails at the Majestic in downtown Kansas City a couple of months ago, but back then, the martini glasses were smaller. One reason they could drink more. Plus, the actual cocktail would stay cool and crisp longer because the drink was in fact, smaller. The bartender at the Majestic gave us lots of cocktail details.
Since we can’t “technically” go back in time, I figure lets celebrate the 60’s with a famous drink from that era! Meet the vodka gimlet. Sounds funny, right? As I was typing this post, I kept typing goblet instead of gimlet. What the heck is a gimlet anyway? According to Wikipedia, it’s basically a drink made with gin or vodka mixed with lime juice. Pretty basic.
I wasn’t entirely sure that this drink would taste an 11/10 because yours truly here always goes for a dirty gin martini with three blue cheese stuffed olives. It never fails. But I should have never doubted the 60’s because this drink is the cat’s meow! In my opinion, in terms of a stiff drink, you can hardly taste the vodka. The drink is quite refreshing with all the lime juice.
Okay, has anyone seen the DorLean? Anyone? Bueller?
