Some Things Will Be Missed
I was browsing through my typical new sites this morning, when I stumbled upon this article on Yahoo: “Things babies born in 2011 will never know.” At first, I didn’t know what to think about the title. Babies. 2011. What could they possibly miss?
Hmmm.
So, I clicked on the link and began to scan through the bulleted list. I would laugh out loud and then frown. Laugh, and the frown again all while contemplating whether or not it would be wrong to see some these products/services become extinct.
Just for giggles, I thought I would pick out a few and respond as to whether or not babies of 2011 would indeed really miss out.
Dial-up Internet (Won’t be Missed): I am very thankful this won’t be around for very much longer. I remember dial-up internet very vividly as a kid. AOL, anybody? It took a phone connection and tons of patience to get the lovely message, You’ve Got Mail. I can safely say that wireless and 3G are my way of connecting to the internet. Thank God.
Encyclopedias (Won’t be Missed): Wow, I don’t think I have picked up one of these bad boys since I was in 5th grade and had to do a research report on Abe Lincoln. Wiki is for sure where it’s at! Just don’t use it as a source.
Wired Phones (Miss): Okay. This one is tricky. Mr. B and I have a land line. Call us crazy, but after 9-1-1 when no could get a call out because the cell towers were down, land lines were the only thing working. To me, it would be hard to give this up.
Long Distance/Calling Cards (Won’t be Missed): Now that we’re all clear on my thoughts about land lines, who is really going to miss calling cards? Thanks to cell phones and Skype, no one uses calling cards or worries about their long distance telephone bill. You can video chat with someone in India for free. Booyah!
The Local Evening News (Won’t Be Missed): This should have been gone a long time ago. The stories they report are completely lame, plus they are always interviewing some uneducated human being on the topic. If I want to know something, I will just Google it.
Yellow and White Pages (Won’t be Missed): I hate these stupid things. Seriously, it’s a waste of time and money When I see one of these on our front door step my blood pressure rises!
Fax Machines (Won’t be Missed): Fax and copy machines remind me of Office Space. (Hi, Peter. What’s happening? We need to talk about your TPS reports) Good riddens!
Video/DVD’s (Miss): I am a collector….well I like to think I am, but I love looking at old movie covers. Hello? The original Batman with Michael Keaton, awesome!
Catalogs (Miss): I love flipping through catologs, especially William Sonoma’s. I understand it’s a waste but I love the feel of paper and it’s easier on the ol’ eyeballs.
Paper Maps (Won’t be Missed): I am not good with maps so anything electronic that will make it easier for me to read….sign me up! But in Mr. B’s case, it’s a miss. Nothing sucks more than being stuck in the middle of nowhere Texas, lost, and no map. Trust him, he’s been there.
And there you have it!
What are some of the things you will and won’t miss?
I saw this article too! The one that made me sad was magazines. I know you can get all that stuff online now, but I LOVE flipping through a magazine. Please don't go away!
