I have yet to find a slider I don’t like.

Honestly, there’s nothing you can’t put between two buns that I wouldn’t like.  ***crickets***

Even though I adore French onion soup, I don’t want to eat the hearty soup all year long. So I decided to take those flavors and transport them into a different vehicle. I’m not shy when it comes to making sliders. A few favorites: Slow Cooker Shredded Lamb Sliders, Fajita Baked Breakfast Sliders, Sheet Pan Corned Beef Sliders, and now these Sheet Pan French Onion Beef Sliders

All you have to do is layer the crumbled ground beef with caramelized onions, top with cheese, and bake until golden brown. I’m telling you these are dreamy and easy. My favorite combo.

Let’s dive in and see what the fuss is about!

How to Make Sheet Pan French Onion Beef Sliders

Best dinners only take a few minutes to put together. Check out the following steps to make these delicious sliders:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Spray a small baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Next, add in the diced onions and cook for a few minutes. Add in the kosher salt, ground pepper, granulated sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Stir and cook for another couple of minutes. Add in the beef broth and continue to cook until the sauce has thickened and liquid has evaporated.
  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer the onions to a bowl and set aside. In the same skillet as the onions, add the ground beef. Cook the ground beef until no longer pink about 5 to 7 minutes, strain the beef if needed.
  • Pour the beef mixture in a large mixing bowl. Once slightly cool, add the mayo and toss followed by the onion mixture.
  • Place the bottom of the slider buns on the prepared sheet pan. Spread the hamburger mixture evenly over the buns. Top with sliced cheese and top buns. Next, melt butter in a microwave safe bowl for about a minute or until melted. Stir in garlic powder and onion powder. Brush the tops of the slider buns with the melted butter.
  • Bake the sliders buns for about 10 to 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden. Remove from the oven and enjoy!

Variations for Sheet Pan French Onion Beef Sliders

One of the many reasons why I enjoy making these sliders are the variations. Below are a few subtle ways to mix up these sliders:

  • Caramelized Onion & Mushroom Sliders: Enhance the French onion flavor by adding sautéed mushrooms along with the caramelized onions.
  • Gruyère Cheese Sliders: While Swiss cheese is traditional in French onion soup, you can switch it up by using Gruyère cheese instead.
  • Garlic Aioli: Spread a layer of garlic aioli on the slider buns before adding the beef mixture.
  • Horseradish Mayo: Mix some prepared horseradish into mayonnaise to create a zesty spread for the sliders.
  • Balsamic Glaze Drizzle: After assembling the sliders, drizzle a balsamic glaze over the top for a touch of sweetness and acidity.
  • Vegetarian Option: For a vegetarian version, substitute the beef with grilled portobello mushrooms. Marinate the mushrooms in a mixture of balsamic vinegar, garlic, and herbs before grilling for maximum flavor.

Proper Storing

Here are some guidelines on how to store these sliders:

Refrigeration: Store the sliders in the refrigerator if you plan to consume them within a few days. They should stay fresh for up to 3-4 days when properly stored in the fridge.

Freezing: If you want to store the sliders for a longer period, consider freezing them. Wrap each slider individually in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, then place them in a freezer-safe container or resealable freezer bag. Frozen sliders will stay fresh for up to 1-2 months.

Reheating: When you’re ready to enjoy the sliders, you can reheat them in the oven or microwave. For the oven, preheat to 350°F and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until heated through. For the microwave, place the sliders on a microwave-safe plate and heat on high for 1-2 minutes, or until warmed to your liking.
