crab and tomato salad with jalapeno avocado dressing
Do your pet peeves ever annoy you?
I realize this question doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but sometimes these things need to be asked.
On the scale of typical pet peeves, mine tend to range on the normal end of the spectrum. Or at least I think they are “normal.” I typically get annoyed when people don’t put dirty dishes in the dishwasher. It perplexes me how a hardened tomato sauce dish can’t find it’s way to a place that will clean the dish for you.
I typically get annoyed when people stop walking in the middle of a busy sidewalk and start looking around. It totally messes up the natural flow of sidewalk traffic. What, are you too good for the “sides” of the sidewalk? Move it, or lose it, people!
I typically get annoyed when people talk loudly into their cellular devices. Unless you’re talking to your sweet, 90 year-old grandmother that is almost deaf, there is no reason to shout into the phone. No one wants to be a part of your conversation. Take it down a few decibels.
But one of my pet peeves irritates the heck out of me. It’s rather silly and some of you will probably think its major cray-cray, so please stink-eye away. I hate being wet. Anytime it rains and I have to walk outside, I immediately become a grumpy-grumperton (hence why I would never live in Seattle). If I’m wearing flip-flops and somehow my feet get wet, I become extremely agitated. The worst is when after using the bathroom and I have to air dry my hands, holy mother of Francis, I feel like the walls are closing in. The funny thing about this annoying pet peeve is that my astrological sign is Pisces, a water sign. It’s complete irony, I tell ya.
Well, with the kickoff of spring officially two days away, I’d better invest in a good umbrella. Because like my homie Snoop Dog would say, “It’s gonna drizzle, my nizzle.” Thankfully, there are things to keep me occupied inside while the spring showers bring may flowers.
I actually made this crab tomato salad while it was snowing outside! Apparently, I was wishing it was spring already. Anyways, this salad comes together lickity-split. I found the lump crab all ready to go at Whole Foods. So, all you need to do is cut some tomato slices, pile on the crab, and make the jalapeno avocado dressing! By the way, this dressing is my new love. It’s fresh, spicy, and sweet.
Now, where did I put my galoshes?
Crab and Tomato Salad with Jalapeno Avocado Dressing
Ingredients:
for the crab salad:
2 large tomatoes, cut into 1/2 inch slices (probably can get about 2 pieces per tomato)
1/2 pound lump crab meat
salt and pepper
drizzle olive oil
for the jalapeno avocado dressing:
1 large haas avcado, pitted, diced
1 garlic clove, minced
1/4 cilantro, chopped
Zest of one lime
Juice of two limes
1/2 jalapeno, seeded, diced
1 tablespoon agave nectar
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt and pepper
Directions:
for the crab salad:
Place one tomato slice on plate. Top tomato slice with about 1/2 cup lump crab meat. Top the lump crab meat with about 1/3 cup of jalapeno dressing mixture. Garnish with a little olive oil and a couple pinches of pepper.
for the jalapeno avocado dressing:
In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients. Set in the fridge for at least 20 minutes to let the flavors combine before serving.

I get annoyed with myself in the grocery store. I swear I get grocery store rage the way others get road rage when it comes to my pet peeves. Is it that hard to stand back while trying to find something? Cmon people. Anyway, this looks so flavorful!
Ha! Totally agree! People who marinate in a grocery store need to move it or lose it!
OK, if you’re coming over for casserole you NEED to bring this salad with you. 😉 YUM!
Deal!! See you in 5!
I am totally with you on the whole sidewalk thing. They just stop and look around and don’t move to the side. My biggest pet peeve is smacking while chewing. OMG I can’t stand it.
Love the simplicity of this dish.
Right?!! I just don’t get it! And the smacking while chewing is a pet peeve of mine too! What are they chewing on, nails? 🙂
I’m love all the colors going on here Lauren… I could eat 50 of these and still feel pretty good about myself! High Five… now as for spring, I’ve been waiting patiently waiting too… I mean c’mon already!
Thanks, Laurie! I think we could all use a big dose of spring right now! This snow needs to take to hike!
That’s suppose to say “I’m lovin”… I must have been too busy drooling over all that avocado!
hahaha annoy myself? never!! but one of my pet peeves is people leaving their stuff out all over my house but then i become really hypocritical and leave my stuff all over the dining room table LOL
this salad. just. gimme!
Ha! Me too! I’m always on the hubs about keeping his “leavings” in their proper place. I’m going to go crazy if we ever have kids:)
Ha! I am laughing because I have some weird pet peeves that my husband thinks are ridiculous. 🙂 I think (or hope) we are not the only ones!
This salad looks so tasty and makes me want spring to just get here already (Chicago had snow today–I mean seriously!?).
Boooo! Seriously, this snow needs to go away!! Hopefully this salad will bring forth spring!
I annoy the heck out of myself on a daily basis! I can’t imagine what other people think 🙂 This salad looks amazing!!! Bring on spring!
Ha! Gurrrrl, I hear ya! I annoy myself daily too!
Love everything about this! Pet peeves – oh girl, I wish I didn’t have any because they annoy me so badly. I annoy myself. Haha.
Thanks, Cassie! I annoy myself as well. I’m starting to think pet peeves around for a reason. It keeps us humble:)
now, this is my kind of salad.
And talk about pet peeves, the dude next to me at the gym was clearly looking for attention today – as he sang loudly for all to hear. So annoyed!
Right? Lettuce is so 2003. Oh, and that’s a huge pet peeve of mine too. People just don’t get it!
That looks fantastic. I love crab, it’s a real favourite at the moment. Love the way you’ve presented it, just looks like something you’d get served in a posh restaurant 🙂
Thanks, Jen! I love how easy this meal comes together. Plus, you can’t go wrong with avocados!
First off. This looks amazing. Secondly, I hate being wet too!!! Your not crazy!
Yes!!!! I am so glad I’m not the only one that hates being wet! High-five!
I am so with you on the pet peeves with the dishes, wiping up messes off the kithcen counter to cleaning out the microwave because you were too lazy to cover the dish/food. I hate shopping because people are so self centered like they are the only one in the store or that their time is more important than anyone elses which leads me to people who realize they are missing their turn and will stop or slow down and hold up rest of traffic so they can get over rather than go up the road and turn around. I seriously want to flatten all 4 of their tires and give them a valid reason for holding up traffic. but enough I have lots of peeves.
Thanks for the recipe its looks really good and looking forward to trying it.
I made this for my cooking club dinner and it was fantastic. It was a hit with everyone! I doubled the recipe, since I wasn’t sure how much this was going to yield.
Yay!! I am so glad you liked it Jackie!! Have a great week!
