Easy Beef Pita Nachos Whipped Feta:
The best way to keep this recipe simple? Prep the ground beef ahead of time. The ground beef can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container or you can freeze the ground beef for up to 3 months.
To defrost the ground beef, remove from the freezer and place in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Or defrost on a safe setting in the microwave.
Ingredients You will Need
Making nachos at home couldn’t be easier. All you need is a handful of ingredients.
- 4 pita bread – I like to white pita rounds because they have a buttery taste and crispy well while in the oven
- Olive oil – cook the ground beef
- Ground beef – A simple and budget-friendly choice of protein for these nachos. However, you can substitute ground chicken, turkey, or lamb.
- Shredded cheese – I went with a mixture of mozzarella and provolone
- Dried Oregano – spice to use in flavoring the ground beef
- Garlic – lots! Fresh garlic adds a ton of flavor
- Red pepper flakes – for a smidge of heat
- Feta crumbles – used for garnish and in the whipped feta
- Cream cheese – plain block will do!
- Garnishes – shredded red cabbage, fresh mint, jalapeno slices
Beef Pita Nachos with Whipped Feta:
Why You Should Shred Your Own Cheese
I prefer to buy a block of cheese and grate it myself because the pre-shredded cheese you buy at the store has a powder coating on it and it doesn’t melt as well. But I also understand life is busy and shortcuts are so helpful, so if you only have pre-shredded cheese, you can use it! It will work.
How to Make Beef Pita Nachos
I love this recipe because you build the nachos on a large sheet pan. One pan means easy to make, easy to serve, and easy to clean up. Okay, let’s dive in and make these nachos.
- Preheat an oven to 400 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Take the pita rounds and slice into triangles. Place your pita triangles in an even, single layer. It’s okay if some of the pita triangles overlap on the pan.
- Next, preheat a large skillet to medium-high heat and add olive oil, ground beef, kosher salt and black pepper. Cook the beef until it is no longer pink for about 5 minutes. Add in the garlic, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Continue to cook for a few minutes. Set the skillet aside.
- Start layering your nachos by adding shredded mozzarella cheese and provolone cheese on top of the pita, then ground beef, and finish it off with more cheese.
- Place the pan in the oven and cook until the cheese is melted, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- While the nachos cook, make the whipped feta cheese. Place feta crumbles and cream cheese into a food processor. Pulse until combined and fluffy. If you need to add a bit of olive oil to help thin the mixture out that’s okay! Whip until desired consistency!
Nacho Toppings
Once the nachos come out of the oven and the cheese is all melted and perfect, it’s time to add lots of delicious toppings. Make sure you load the toppings on for the BEST nachos!
- Shredded red cabbage
- Scallions
- Fresh Cilantro
- Fresh Cucumbers
- Jalapeño slices
- Whipped feta
- Crumbled feta
- Sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
- Fresh mint
- Kalamata olives
- Tzatziki sauce
