Do you dial up Cupid for Valentine’s Day?

We do, but we tend to keep him in the singing telegram distance. Mr. B and I always order pizza, watch a movie and just relax. Nothing crazy like buying roses, extravagant gifts, etc.

However, now that Charlie is older I LOVE to add a few special treats to celebrate the day. Over the past few years I’ve put together ideas like Valentine’s Day Charcuterie Board, Heart-Shaped Chocolate Cake, Mini-Heart Shaped Pizzas, and now these Heart-Shaped Brookies. Besides enjoying said treats, I think the best part is spending time with her in the kitchen. She’s a wonderful helper!

Ready to get Cupid’s bow fired up? Let’s make some brookies!

What is a Brookie

A “brookie” typically refers to a dessert that combines two popular treats: brownies and cookies. It’s a hybrid dessert that features layers or swirls of brownie batter and cookie dough. The result is a delicious combination of the fudgy richness of brownies and the chewy goodness of cookies in a single baked treat.

Best Heart-Shaped Mold to Use

You can use any heart-shaped mold you have on hand. If you don’t have the mini molds, you could always use a heart-shaped cake. OR! Make the brookies in a regular muffin pan and sprinkle heart shaped sprinkles on top!

BUT! If you want to make these cute heart-shaped brookies, I found these cute pink ones on Amazon (affiliate link). The brookies are easy to remove and the molds clean up great too!

Ingredients used to make Heart-Shaped Brookies

Only a few ingredients stand in your way of making these brookies. You will need the following ingredients:

  • Pink, White & Red M&M’s
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough – store bought or homemade
  • Brownie Batter – store bought or homemade

How to Make these Heart-Shaped Brookies

Making festive treats at home is a great way to connect with the ones you love! With only a few simple steps, you will be able to enjoy these brookies with family and friends.

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray two heart-shaped muffin pans with non-stick cooking spray and place on a baking sheet.
  2. Prepare the boxed brownie mix according to package directions. Set aside. Next, take 1 tablespoon of the M&M’s and place them into the bottom of each heart. Take two pieces of the cookie dough and place them on top of the M&M’s. Using your fingers spread the cookie dough over the M&M’s.
  3. Next, pour the brownie batter over the cookie dough carefully to not overfill while leaving some room at the top. Bake the heart-shaped brookies for about 30 to 40 minutes or until the brownies have set. If they need longer to bake that’s okay! Remove from the oven and allow them to cool completely before removing from the heart-shaped mold!

Variations

Best part about making brookies are all the variations. Here are few ideas to customize your brookie making experience:

Marbled Hearts: Make a marbled effect by swirling the brownie batter and cookie dough together with a toothpick to create a beautiful pattern.

Chocolate Chip Hearts: Add chocolate chips or chunks to both the brownie batter and cookie dough for extra chocolatey goodness.

Red Velvet Hearts: Make red velvet brownies and pair them with a contrasting cookie dough color for a festive and visually appealing combination.

Raspberry Swirl Hearts: Swirl raspberry sauce or preserves into the brownie batter for a fruity twist.

Proper Storing

Here are some guidelines on how to store brookies:

  • Room Temperature: If you plan to consume the brookies within a day or two, you can store them at room temperature in an airtight container.
  • Freezing: For longer-term storage, consider freezing the brookies. Transfer them to an airtight container or zip-top bag, separating layers with parchment paper. Label with the date for reference. Frozen brookies can typically be stored for a few months.
  • Thawing: When you’re ready to enjoy the frozen brookies, thaw them in the refrigerator or at room temperature. Reheat them in the oven for a few minutes if you prefer them warm.
